2020 has been a time of learning and adaptability, one big way a lot of our practice members have had to do this is by working home and setting up a home office. Long term use of a desk set up that isn’t quite up to ergonomic scratch can lead to many problems including back pain and neck strain. Let’s avoid those by using these tips from Dr Bronwyn Miller (chiropractor).
So how should you go about setting up a home office?
Here are a few pointers to help you out:
- Your chair should be at a height so that when your elbows are at your sides, your forearms can rest comfortably on the desk with the elbows at a 90 degree angle
- Your feet should be flat on the ground, if they are not then add a footstool to stop them hanging
- The monitor should be set at a height so that your eyes are looking at the top half of the screen when looking straight ahead.
- If you ware working from a laptop, we recommend hooking the laptop up to a monitor screen or using a lap top stand and wireless keyboard and mouse.
- You should have your mouse and keyboard set up so that you can easily reach them while your elbows are still at a side position. Constantly reaching for your mouse can lead to shoulder and upper back pain.
